Recovery: Why is it important?

Recovery is often an overlooked area of training when it comes to regular exercise and competition.  It is paramount that you recover correctly, to ensure that you are ready for your next training session or match. Any form of exercise essentially damages the muscles; recovery is important to aid muscular repair.

There are 7 main components to recovery:

  • Sleep
  • Hydration
  • Nutrition
  • Posture
  • Stretching
  • Self-Myofascial Release
  • Heat, Ice & Compression

Each of these have a major role in the recovery process where you should try to incorporate them all into your routine to ensure that you can compete at the highest level.

Have a think about what you do to recover after training and matches at this moment in time. What can you do to help your body recover correctly?

For now concentrate on getting enough sleep and feeling the body with food correctly before and after exercise. Over the next couple of weeks we will detail more about each of the 7 components and how to help your body to recover in the best way possible.
